There’s nothing like being a kid this time of year looking forward to hanging out with their friends at the county fair. Going on rides, eating cotton candy and mini donuts, watching 4-H showings, and hiding from that summer heat in the grandstand with your family. This year we were going to have a carnival again, and make it the best fair this county has had in years!
We are finding ourselves backed into a corner to make a decision that will affect our local businesses, vendors, exhibitors, 192 4-H kids, and 40 little cloverbuds. It has been very difficult to keep up with constant changing demands of the guidelines present, but also try to comply with the restrictions placed that coincide with our insurance as well to ensure for future fairs. This decision has really been a hard one for us. The community is our backbone and what would we do without you if an outbreak happened at the fair? Our wonderful county and our traditions are not worth tainting with sickness and loss.
With that being said, we at the Pope County Agricultural Society Board of Directors are stepping back, taking a deep breath, and saying- “Not this year, our community means too much to put into harm’s way.” We appreciate everyone’s understanding as we all go through this together. Stay tuned for possible events later in the season pending government updates and the state of this pandemic as we postpone the 134th Pope County Fair. We will support 4-H the best we can in an effort to have their time to shine and do what they love. Stay healthy, we’ll be seeing you in 2021.
